Story of the World by Susan Wise Bauer gets my vote! This world history curriculum is comprised of four volumes starting from ancient times and ending somewhere around the year 2000. The text is told in story format which I believe to be far more engaging and interesting than traditional textbooks. There is also an activity guide filled with additional history reading and literature suggestions as well as numerous crafts, games, projects, etc., to supplement each chapter. Test packets are also available for purchase if you are interested. My son loved listening to each of the volumes before bed each night on his cd player. Jim Weiss does a fantastic job narrating. Before each school year, I enjoyed looking through the literature suggestions and would pick out picture books to read each week. Many of them were available at local libraries. These picture books were an awesome supplement to the curriculum. Many of them I have purchased and will keep forever!
Science has not been as easy. If I had a seven year old, I would probably outline what I wanted to study and hit the library!
