Hi Everyone,

I just want to send out a warning to those of you who may be in the Plum School District in Allegheny County,(Please pass this on if you know anyone this might affect).

There is a new person in the position of acceptance for homeschool portfolio/evaluation materials.

I took my full documentation for this school year all evaluated, logged, etc..., and when I went to drop it off with the district, the administrative assistant came out and said that she wouldnīt take it.

She said that they are going to be doing something new this school year, and they will be sending out letters to schedule for parents to come in to talk with the new person in the position. She said, "I canīt take this." "We have to wait until the end of the school year."

I said, "This is the end of MY school year. Iīm not trying to cause problems, but do you know that what you are requesting is against the law? I am simply required to submit this to you, weīve done our days, weīve had our evaluation, and I have run around all morning getting things together for this, and this is all I have to do according to the law. I am going to be calling the PA Department of Education."

At this point, she said, "Let me see what you have here," and I explained it all to her. She then signed a receipt that I had printed to prove that she had accepted what I submitted.

I felt victory, but I was pretty irritated by the fact that they donīt know the law. She even said she was new and didnīt know what was required. I think they should check before they try to make us go to extra work according to something not in the law, donīt you? We work very hard to teach our children well and to be acting legally, and I resent the fact that they think they have a right to do something different without even looking into the law.

Anyway, I did call Sarah Pearce at the PA Dept. of Education. What Plum is trying to request is not required by law.

I donīt mind talking with them, as I am proud of my kidsī achievements, but I am too busy doing what I am supposed to be doing to have time to jump through their imaginary requirement hoops!

May you all have better experiences in your end-of-year submissions.
