Westmoreland Enrichment Classes, a homeschool co-op team, won the Westmoreland Envirothon again this year and will go to the state competition at Penn Stateīs main campus on May 19-20.
The teamīs advisor is Tammy Deemer. Out of the five students on the team, only one has gone to the state level of competition before, 4-year member, senior Evan Zajdel. The other four students, sophomores Emily Deemer and Amanda Wilson and freshmen Susanna Deemer and Michael Pacacha will be going to the state championship for the first time.
This year, the competition was fierce. Only fifteen points separated the top three teams. WEC had a total score of 397. Yough HS had 389, and third place Kiski HSīs team scored a 382.
As of the time of this writing, advisor Tammy Deemer does not plan to compete next year so she and her team leave the field as winners. Congratulations to her and to this yearīs team and to all the members of her former teams!
