  • April 25, 2011, PA Homeschoolers Fourteenth Annual Central PA Spring Volleyball Tournament at Messiah College near Harrisburg. For more info, click on "Volleyball" on the sidebar.
  • May 2, 2011, PA Homeschoolers Eighth Annual Western PA Spring Volleyball Tournament at Monroeville Sports near Pittsburgh. For more info, click on "Volleyball" on the sidebar.
Our three PA Homeschoolers spring tournaments are run using the following format:
  • Until about 3pm, Teams will play either 3 or 4 best 2 out of 3, 15 point game matches during this time period.
  • At about 3pm, the playoffs between the top 4 teams will begin with the first place team playing the fourth place team and the second place team playing the third place team. Other teams will play consolation matches against a team that is adjacent to them in the standings with the match determining which team will finish ahead in the standings. Playoff and consolation matches will be best 2 out of 3 (15 point game), or 1 game matches to 25 points, or one game to 15 points, depending upon whether the tournament is running ontime.
  • At about 5pm, the winners of the playoff matches between the top four teams will play championship matches.
  • At about 5:45pm, there will be an awards ceremony. At the ceremony the first through third place teams in each division will get plaques and the members of the all-tournament teams in the A divsions (as voted by the A division coaches) will receive certificates.
  • After the tournament, each team will be mailed certificates for each member, suitable for being included in a homeschool portfolio. The certificate will state the player's name and team and the placement of his or her team in the final standings.
The tournaments use "rally scoring" and have a special rule that insures that girls are not left out of the play (click here for the tournament rules). If you would like more information, please do not hesitate to call me (724-783-6512) or e-mail me (howard@pahomeschoolers.com). If you are interested in putting together a new team, I might even be able to help you find homeschooled students in your area who would like to play. You only need to field 6 students (including at least 2 boys and 2 girls).
Note: We have almost unlimited space at our Eastern PA tournament (up to 12 nets), but limited space at our Central PA (7 nets) and Western PA (4 nets) tournaments. As a result, we have the following special rule: Any teams that wish can participate in all three PA Homeschoolers spring tournaments or in just one tournament, but if a team just wants to participate in two tournaments, one of those two will have to be PA Homeschoolers Eastern PA Tournament (the April 4 2011 tournament). In other words, you can't participate in both the Western and Central tournaments unless you also participate in the Eastern PA tournament.
